Setup
Do this once, before the first export invoice. Missing setup surfaces as errors at invoice submission time (the app refuses to post benefit entries without the right accounts), so it pays to finish this list first.
1. Company accounts
Exim posts Journal Entries automatically when an export invoice is submitted. It needs to know which ledgers to hit. Open your Company record and set:
| Field | Typical account | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Duty Drawback Receivable Account | Duty Drawback Receivable (Current Asset) | Debit side of the drawback JV |
| Duty Drawback Income Account | Duty Drawback Income (Indirect Income) | Credit side of the drawback JV |
| Duty Drawback Cost Center | Main | Cost center stamped on the JV |
| RODTEP Receivable Account | RoDTEP Receivable (Current Asset) | Debit side of the RoDTEP JV |
| RODTEP Income Account | RoDTEP Income (Indirect Income) | Credit side of the RoDTEP JV |
| RODTEP Cost Center | Main | Cost center stamped on the JV |
| IGST Export Refund Receivable | IGST Export Refund Receivable (Current Asset) | IGST refund JV for export-with-GST invoices |
| IEC Code / REX Number | — | Printed on export documents |
If any account is missing, submitting an export invoice fails with "Set Duty Drawback Receivable Account in Company" (or the RODTEP equivalent). Nothing is half-posted — the submission is rolled back.
2. Exim Settings
Exim Settings (single doctype) has three switches:

| Setting | Effect when enabled |
|---|---|
| Use Advance Authorization License based on CAS No of Item | Licence lookups on invoices match items by CAS number (chemical industry) instead of item code |
| Round Off Values | The automatic benefit JVs post rounded amounts, with the paise difference going to a Rounded Off account |
| Manage Rodtep Claim and Duty Drawback Claim | Enables accounting-dimension tracking on claim detail rows |
3. Masters
Create these reference records as needed:
- Port Details — every port you load from or discharge to (name, UN/LOCODE-style port code, country). Used on orders, invoices, and licences.
- Export Document — the document types your LCs demand: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin, Phytosanitary Certificate, etc.
- Document Check — internal verification points (e.g. LC Terms Verified, Documents Submitted To Bank) that appear as tick-boxes on invoices.
- Packaging Material — bag/carton types for packing lists.
- Bank — set Bank Type on every bank: Indian Bank for your funding banks, Foreign Bank for buyer-side/supplier-side banks. Forward Booking and the loan documents filter on this.
- LUT Detail — your Letter of Undertaking number, date, and validity (see Licences & Compliance).
- Range and Division — excise range/division/commissionerate reference, if your print formats need it.
4. Journal Entry voucher types
The automatic benefit entries use two custom voucher types: Duty Drawback Entry and RODTEP Entry. If your site's Journal Entry doesn't list them (check the Entry Type dropdown), add them via a Property Setter on Journal Entry.voucher_type. Without them, export invoice submission fails with an "Entry Type cannot be…" validation.
5. Sites without india_compliance
Exim reads a few India-localisation fields from Sales Invoice: gst_category, shipping_bill_number, and shipping_bill_date. On a site with the india_compliance app these already exist. On a site without it, add them as Custom Fields (a Select and a Data + Date pair, with Allow on Submit enabled for the shipping bill fields) — otherwise saving any Sales Invoice fails once Exim's hooks are active.
Likewise, Forward Booking writes amount_hedged / natural_hedge / amount_unhedged back onto the underlying document. Sales Invoice gets these fields from Exim itself; Sales Order needs them added as Custom Fields if you plan to book forwards against orders.
6. Item-level rates
Duty Drawback and RoDTEP rates are entered per invoice line (rate %, optional cap). There is no rate master — your CHA or DGFT schedule is the source of truth. Enter the rate on the item row of each export invoice; the app does the math and the accounting from there.
